The West Collierville Middle School baseball team has faced elimination four times in the post-season and in each game a different hero has stepped up.

WCMS came from behind to defeat Arlington Middle in their first game of the Municipal League Tournament. They then won in dramatic fashion via extra innings over Houston Middle to advance to this week's sectional tournament at USA Stadium in Millington.

On game one Monday, the Dragons drew the champion from Memphis Shelby County Schools and cruised to a 10-0 victory over White Station. WCMS would then have to defeat the West Tennessee Athletic Conference champ, Munford, for an opportunity to represent the west section of the state at the TMSAA State Tournament on May 19th and 20th.

That box is now checked after a convincing win Tuesday, 13-4, over the Cougars.

The top of the line-up provided the damage. Lead-off hitter and third baseman, Garrett Stephens, was 3-for-3 that included an inside-the-park home run and four runs scored. Centerfielder Jacob Caruso, hitting in the 2 hole, had a pair of hits and 2 runs scored. Shortstop Preston Sumner was 2-for-2 with 3 RBIs. Clean up hitter and second baseman, Eli Stewart, also banged out a pair of hits and 2 RBIs.

Sumner came in relief to record the final six outs while striking out three.

West Collierville will now await their opponent for the first game of the State Tournament that is scheduled on the 19th, 5pm, at Drake Creek's Park in Hendersonville. It is the school's first appearance in just the three years of the TMSAA Baseball State Championships existence.
