cardiac kids - a title given to any sports team that displays a tendency to pick up nail-biting victories.

The West Collierville Lady Dragons have earned the title cardiac kids after trailing the entire state tournament semi-final game, versus Macon County, until Taylor Miller connected on a three-pointer opposite side of the team's bench at the end of the third quarter.

With a 27-26 lead heading into the game's final quarter of play, back-and-forth lead changes took place until the final minute. That's when Miller hit another three-pointer to tie the game 37-37, then a steal and layup by Hilary Shikuku, and clutch free throws down the stretch by Emma Kelly sealed the victory. Camille Martin came up with big buckets throughout the game and Lily Reafsnyder's tenacious defense against Macon County's top player was a game changer.

West Collierville Middle improves to 21-0 and will play Bradley County Schools' Lake Forest in today's (Feb. 13) state championship. Tip-off is scheduled for 2pm at Rockvale High School in Rutherford County.
