The 2019 West Collierville Dragons, coached by JD Stambaugh, had its ups and downs this year but showed early on this season that they would be a team that could make MSCL history. Heading into the North Tournament as the 3 seed, they battled their a very hot Briarcrest Saints team in the Quarter-final, and scrapped a win to move onto the Semi-Final verse their hometown Rival Collierville East - Bachelor. In the Semi-Final, West Collierville had a comfortable 4 run lead and won the game in comfortable fashion, 6-1.
Now it came down to all the marbles, West Collierville knew at somepoint they would have to play the defending, and #1 seeded Houston Mustangs in the North Championship. This game started out with a bang as West Collierville went up early with a 4-1 lead, but Houston would not back down, bringing the game to a tie in the bottom of the 3rd, 4-4. It was anyone's game at this point, but after walking the bases loaded, #24 for Collierville took the team on his back with a grand slam to right center to put the Dragons up 8-4 in the top of the 4th. With that momentum swing, Houston battled, but West Collierville ended up as champions, with the final score as 10-6.
Both Houston and West Collierville had wonderful seasons this year, and the MSCL wants to congratulate both teams for their sportsmanship and their hard work throughout the year.
