Collierville, TN — Collierville Schools held its annual School Support Organizations (SSO) meeting on Tuesday, July 22, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Collierville High School’s Pickler Auditorium. The event brought together nearly 100 attendees, including head coaches, presidents, treasurers, and district personnel, to reinforce the importance of financial accountability, compliance, and collaboration.
The meeting opened with a welcome from Assistant Superintendent Jeff Jones, who introduced key district staff and emphasized the district’s commitment to transparency and partnership with SSOs.
Collierville Schools' Chief Financial Secretary, Anita Floyd, addressed the audience with gratitude for their continued support and understanding of the importance of financial controls. She introduced representatives from the district’s audit and consulting partner, Forvis Mazars, including Senior Manager Jamie Amos, who led a session on financial oversight and best practices. His presentation focused on maintaining accurate records, adhering to district policies, and preparing for audits.
Next, Shonna Johnson from Givebacks, the district’s official compliance platform for SSOs, provided hands-on training. She demonstrated how the platform helps reduce risk and streamline paperwork by consolidating essential documentation in one secure location. Johnson guided attendees through uploading board officer contact information, annual information forms, budgets, bylaws, charter documents, and concessions profit and loss statements. She also reminded attendees that Givebacks is the only approved crowdfunding platform for the district.
Attendees enjoyed a break with refreshments provided by McAlister’s Deli before reconvening for district-specific updates.
Jeff Curtis, District Athletic Director, highlighted recent achievements in athletics, the arts, and career and technical education—areas where SSOs play a vital role in enhancing the student experience. He also addressed common challenges and outlined necessary corrections for the upcoming school year.
Christine Maxwell, Financial Secretary at Collierville High School, shared frequently asked questions and clarified common issues encountered by SSOs, offering practical solutions and reminders.
The meeting concluded with final remarks from Assistant Superintendent Jones, who provided clarification on compensation and stipends for both school employees and non-faculty coaches from the SSOs.
